Where different paths rest safely for a while…
Our mission is to be a safe, Christian transitional house for youth aging out of foster care that provides college enrollment preparation and job search assistance with permanent housing referrals.
Path Haven’s mission is accomplished through implementation of two supervised independent living (SIL) programs in accordance with Tennessee’s Department of Children Services (DCS) extended foster care framework: (1) The College Bound Program and (2) The Employment Independency Program. While residing at Path Haven, transitioning youth participate in one of the two programs.
The impact of our mission includes: improving the experience of youth transitioning from foster care, combatting youth homelessness, expanding the local workforce and increasing enrollment in colleges and universities locally.
The College Bound Program (CBP) temporarily houses youth who have aged out of foster care as they transition to college matriculation and campus living.
The Employment Independency Program (EIP) temporarily houses youth who have aged out of foster care as they transition to employment life and permanent residences.
Supporting Youth Aging Out of Foster Care
In 2023, a new Tennessee law was enacted to permit youth aging out of foster care at 18 years old to extend foster care to 23 years of age. Youth 18 - 22 who have already aged out of foster care may now contact the Department of Children Services' Extended Foster Care division (called Bright Futures) to return to foster care housing. Temporary housing provided by Bright Futures for youth who have aged out of foster care helps youth successfully transition to adulthood.
While eligibility for Bright Futures is required, previous youth of foster care who are experiencing loss or lack of housing may receive placement for free housing or assistance locating inexpensive housing in the State of Tennessee.
